Martyn’s Law doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

For most premises, the law is about having sensible procedures and staff who know what to do. It is not about buying every piece of security kit on the market.

Our job is to make you secure, safer and compliant, within your budget. We will tell you honestly what you need, what can wait, and what you don’t need at all.

An honest view of what the law actually requires of you
A plan built around your budget, not a shopping list
Changes made in stages, reviewed and adjusted as you go
Extra security added only where it is genuinely needed

Does Martyn’s Law apply to you?

The Act covers publicly accessible premises of certain types, such as shops, hospitality, entertainment venues, education and places of worship, along with large public events. Which tier you fall into depends on how many people you can reasonably expect at the same time.

200 to 799 people

Standard tier

You must notify the SIA and have appropriate public protection procedures in place, so far as reasonably practicable. These cover four things:

Evacuation · Invacuation · Lockdown · Communication

Mostly about procedures and trained staff, not expensive equipment.

800+ people, and qualifying events

Enhanced tier

Everything in the standard tier, plus appropriate public protection measures to reduce your vulnerability to an attack. Your procedures and measures must be documented and provided to the SIA.

Also applies to public events of 800+ with controlled entry, such as ticketing or bag checks.

Places of worship expecting 200 or more people fall in the standard tier, even above 800. Not sure where you stand? That’s the first thing we check.

Why Risk Secured

Advice from people who think like the threat.

Our leadership comes from RAF Police and intelligence work. We understand how attackers plan, what hostile reconnaissance looks like and how the first minutes of an incident play out. That’s the thinking behind every procedure we write.

Our advice is proportionate. We will never recommend equipment or guarding you don’t need. Where you do need more, such as CCTV, alarm response or officers, we can provide it as part of the same plan, added in stages as your assessment shows it’s needed. Our Martyn’s Law consultancy is also included with every corporate security contract.

How we work

Nobody can get this right from a single quick visit. Good advice starts with understanding your business.

1

Initial assessment

A one to two hour visit to understand your business, your premises, your risks and what you can and can’t realistically do.

2

A clear, prioritised plan

What the law requires, what matters most, and what can wait, set out plainly and costed to fit your budget.

3

Put in place in stages

Procedures written, staff trained and the first measures in place, starting with what makes the biggest difference.

4

Review and adjust

We review how it’s working, adjust, and only add more security where it’s needed to keep you safe and compliant.
